Great opportunity to support our organization and to pick up a couple t-shirts that promote the concept that recovery/sobriety is possible for anyone seeking a way out.
Another successful day at the PRA and LARC with our second annual poker run. We are thankful for our friends at the LARC. Amazing day with an auction, raffle, dinner, live bands! Lake Area Recovery Club and PRA hosted a #pokerrun. Portage Mayor Sue Lynch dropped in to say hello to support our event. She is the winner of a beautiful necklace that’s donated by Bunch Jewelry. #recoverymonth #nwi #charity #community #sobermovement #unity #recoverymonth
Lake Area Recovery Club invited PRA to collaborate together to throw the biggest poker fun in the region. We are excited for this event for many reasons. We have a number of restaurants and local businesses who are donating food and certificates for the event. What is better than a large group of recovery members to celebrate sobriety during National Recovery Month?!!
Interested in donating a certificate, gift basket, desserts, or more for this event? Msg Nicole at 219-364-6138.

Every September, SAMHSA organization sponsors National Recovery Month to celebrate the people who recover and to increase awareness and understanding of substance abuse and mental health disorders. Last year, we invited Brandon George to speak on a panel with a local mayor, chief of police, school administrator and attorney. For “TBT”, please listen to Brandon George’s TED Talk. We included something below from the event.
Save the date for the next recovery event – September 12th, 2020.
Celebrating sobriety and clean date birthdays this Saturday with friends at the PRA. We love to share now Recovery IS possible with the new and old-timers!
5965 McCasland Ave, Portage, IN
Celebrating recovery time with our community is important. The newly sober person should see that Recovery IS possible! We can have fun sober. Mark your calendars to attend the monthly anniversary parties. It’s the last Saturday of the month.
Happy Sunday! Portage Recovery continues to provide a safe place for people to meet for support groups and fellowship. Our goal is for men and women to find the help they seek, here. Three weeks since we have reopened our doors. Large groups of members are returning, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to attend meetings via zoom and now in person. We have sold a number of memberships, coffee mugs, and t-shirts as our fundraisers. The Anniversary Party was a huge hit! 164 years of sobriety with five speakers sharing their experience, strength and hope. The Living In Today Memorial Party was a lot of fun as well.
Returning to some sense of normalcy is a goal in itself. We look forward to the day when we can reopen the coffee station. We look forward to the day where all people feel safe in groups, the workplace, and community. We look forward to the day when we can pack the house without concerns from outsiders and friends.
Time to transition home, from the online community to the in-person groups and activities. Our goal is the abide by the law, adhering to Indiana #Backontrack plan. Initially, we shut down our coffee machine & took steps to promote a safe environment. Next, we closed our doors and transitioned all of the groups online, via Zoom. Since the start of phase one, we opened the 8PM weekend groups with a strong support for meeting outdoors. PRA provided grilled food and music outdoors to promote fellowship and safety.
Effective last Monday, the 8PM groups will meet nightly and Mid Day Open to meet daily (M-F). Both rooms are set up to practice safety and social distancing (25 & 16 occupancy). Sanitizer, gloves, masks, and non-physical interactions are highly encouraged. Sanitizer is mandatory. We require the groups to sanitize chairs & tables, before and after each meeting. Grateful for our friends and volunteers!! Thank you for making this place a safe place & HUGE success!!!
Fresh paint, new tables, deep clean and swept floors. We are blessed. We are thankful for our friends.
The Portage Recovery Association (PRA) is a non-profit organization (501c7) that provides a clean and safe place for recovery groups to meet. The PRA ensures men and women have a safe place to go for fun, friendship, and fellowship. We closed our doors due to COVID-19 for safety reasons and have no regrets. Our members have helped with donations to cover the cost of our expenses. We are hopeful our friends will have the opportunity to reconnect soon; therefore, the board members met for a deep cleaning. Kitchen deep cleaned, walls painted, floors swept, coffee machine sanitized, and more. We shared a post in the Facebook group about cleaning and offered curb-side shopping for the people who wanted to buy some literature and memberships. Thank you to the gentleman who stopped in to buy books, membership, and more! Thank you to the board members who spent hours cleaning and painting! More will be revealed…
People will ask, “how can I help?” We decided to create a virtual wish list. Share with your community and friends. Our goal is to remain available for the person who struggled with addiction. We look forward to opening our doors when it’s safe. #addiction #donate #recoveryispossible #sobriety #alcoholism #sober #addictionrecovery #substanceusedisorder #mentalhealth #stigma #endthestigma
We are grateful for the love and support from our friends and community.
